Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (OSCEFA) is an organisation that was started in Australia over ten years ago by a group of actors to raise funds to assist people living with HIV/AIDS. The idea was based on Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS in New York which raises money for the same cause.
The Queensland branch of OSCEFA was started in 2004 with a major fundraising concert HATS OFF BrizVegas - a star-studded variety concert held at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Out of this event was formed the Queensland charity The HOPE Fund - a initiative of OSCEFA in assocation with the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities (QAHC) and Queensland Positive People (QPP).
The HOPE Fund provides assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS in Queensland, and is administered by a committee and managed by QPP.
Each year Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has held an annual HATS OFF concert in both Melbourne and Sydney with Brisbane having held concerts from 2004 - 2007. OSCEFA often holds a series of smaller fundraising events during the year.
Now after a three year break OSCEFA will present HATS OFF BrizVegas 2010 on Monday 23 August at 6.30pm at the Playhouse, QPAC.
HATS OFF BrizVegas 2010 will feature a stunning line-up of perfomers including the cast of the hit musical MAMMA MIA! with Anne Wood, Michael Cormick and David Sommerville. Tickets: $40. Bookings: 136 246 or www.qpac.com.au
